Being an open science journal, JCPP Advances aims to proactively experiment with and explore new approaches to publication and research. We have achieved so much in our first year, and hope you can join us to celebrate.

This one-year anniversary event will feature a series of five fantastic 10-minute lectures from leading researchers, academics and practitioners on a number of topics in the field of child and adolescent mental health, and will also include a short presentation from Wiley, ACAMH’s publishing partner, highlighting JCPP Advances’ success so far.

Speakers include: Professor Henrik Larsson JCPP Advances Editor in Chief, Professor Edmund Sonuga-Barke, Professor Mina Fazel, Professor Argyris Stringaris, Dr. Jessie Baldwin, Dr. Praveetha Patalay, and Sarah Oates.

About the speakers

Professor Henrik Larsson
Professor Henrik Larsson

Henrik Larsson is Editor in Chief of JCPP Advances, and Professor of Psychiatric Epidemiology at Örebro University and Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. The overall objective of his research team’s work is to understand how genes and environment influence mental health problems across the life span, to understand the interplay between mental and physical health, to map developmental trajectories and consequences of mental health across the lifespan and to identify the benefits and risks associated with pharmacological treatment interventions.

Dr. Gordana Milavić MD., F.R.C.Psych.
Dr. Gordana Milavić MD., F.R.C.Psych.

Dr. Milavić is Chair of ACAMH. She is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at the Maudsley Hospital, London. She has over 40 years of experience in acute clinical practice, teaching and training. During her career she has been at the forefront of the organisation of mental health services for children and adolescents in southeast London. She is a Trustee and medical advisor of a number of mental health charities in the UK and internationally. She was Co -Chair of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Section of the World Psychiatric Association (2010-2017). She is President Elect and member of the Psychiatry Council of the Royal Society of Medicine.

Professor Edmund Sonuga-Barke
Professor Edmund Sonuga-Barke

Edmund Sonuga-Barke is currently Professor of Developmental Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience working in the School of Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience, King’s College London. He is an Honorary Skou Professor at Aarhus University, Denmark. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry. His work integrates Developmental Psychopathology and Neuroscience perspectives employing basic developmental science approaches to study the pathogenesis of neuro-developmental and mental health conditions; their underlying genetic and environmental risks, mediating brain mechanisms and developmental outcomes. Motivated by his own childhood experience of growing up with learning difficulties he has a particular interest in ADHD and related disorders. In 2016, Prof Sonuga-Barke was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and 2018 a Fellow of the British Academy.

Professor Mina Fazel
Professor Mina Fazel

Mina Fazel is a Professor of Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Oxford and a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist in the Department of Children’s Psychological Medicine at the Oxford Children’s Hospital. She has been working for two decades on how to improve mental health services for vulnerable and hard to reach populations which has led to an interest in integrated care and school-based mental health services. She has worked with local CAMHS services to change how they interface with education. She also conducts the OxWell Student Survey which in 2021 had responses from over 30,000 students, guiding our understanding of what school-aged students say they want and need.

Professor Argyris Stringaris
Professor Argyris Stringaris

Professor Stringaris is the head of the Mood in Neurodevelopment (MIND) Unit at UCL. As a Clinician Scientist, he studies mood and the mechanisms that lead to depression, particularly in adolescents. His clinical interest is in depression and severe irritability (emotion dysregulation). He was, until recently, Senior Investigator and Chief of the Section of Clinical and Computational Psychiatry at NIMH/NIH in the USA and before that a Senior Lecturer and a Wellcome Trust Fellow at the Institute of Psychiatry Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London. He trained in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital. He is the President of the International Society for Research in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Dr. Jessie Baldwin
Dr. Jessie Baldwin

Dr. Jessie R Baldwin is a Sir Henry Wellcome post-doctoral fellow at University College London and visiting researcher at the Social, Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry Centre at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London. Her research focuses on understanding the relationships between childhood trauma and health.

Dr. Praveetha Patalay
Dr. Praveetha Patalay

Praveetha Patalay is an Associate Professor at UCL, London. Her research focuses on mental health through the life course, health inequalities, and the intersection between physical and mental health. She is interested in how we can achieve better health and wellbeing through our lives and the preventive interventions and structural changes that might be needed to support this. She is also an artist and makes jewellery.

Sarah Oates
Sarah Oates

Sarah is responsible for Wiley’s Psychology and Human Behaviour global journals portfolio. Sarah works with Editors, Societies and Associations to increase the reach and impact of their journals.
